Supervisors this week have held the hearings in advance of an approval to the 2010-11 fiscal year budget.

The big topic on today’s agenda was the library item. Library officials and other community members had expressed concern about the closure possibility.

Supervisors talked about the notion of closing the library as an idea in efforts to close a $9.4 million deficit this fiscal year, starting July 1.

They agreed to keep the library open, but formed a subcommittee to work with the library administration in coming up with cuts to reduce the cost. County officials in recent years have ordered other cost cuts and fee increases at the library, including its closure on Saturdays.

Supervisors gave preliminary approval to the budget document. A final approval is expected Aug. 24.
