The Anzar volleyball team continued its strong start to the season Tuesday, avenging its only loss to beat Watsonville 3-0 at home.

Anzar controlled the match’s tempo, winning 25-21, 25-13 and 25-14 to earn the commanding win.

The victory follows a 4-1 showing at the Watsonville tournament on Saturday. In the day-long tourney, the Hawks defeated Stevenson (25-22, 25-14), International (23-25, 25-12, 15-13), Live Oak (25-14, 23-25, 15-8) and Pacific Grove (25-11, 25-19).

The season’s only loss was to Watsonville in the opening match of the weekend. Anzar won the first game 25-22 but fell in the final two sets.

With Tuesday’s victory, the Hawks are now 8-1 in the young season. They travel to Gilroy High on Wednesday to face the Mustangs at 5 p.m.

SBHS Volleyball 

The Balers evened their overall record at 4-4 Tuesday, with a 3-1 victory over Homestead at San Benito High.

The Balers lost the first set 25-13, but rallied to win the next three games (25-18, 25-23, 25-23) to earn their first home victory.

San Benito will play in the Harbor Invitational on Saturday.
