After falling to Gilroy in its Tri-County Athletic League opener last week, a match in which it battled back from a two-games-to-none deficit only to fall in five sets, the San Benito boys’ volleyball team has since won two straight, including Tuesday’s five-set victory (11-25, 25-16, 21-25, 26-24, 15-12) over host Salinas.

Kevin Thome anchored the Balers to the tune of 15 kills and 16 blocks in the win, while Isaiah Acfalle chimed in with 13 kills and seven blocks.
The Balers are now 1-1 in the TCAL, 2-2 overall.
Like its match with Gilroy, however, San Benito came out slow on Tuesday night against Salinas, dropping the opening set by a 25-11 margin.
The Balers had 15 unforced errors in Game 1.
But a bounce-back set in the second game provided a much-needed boost of energy for San Benito, which fell behind 2-1 following the third set but managed to win the next two sets.
James Flook added 10 kills in the win, David Hawks had 48 assists and Eric Adams contributed 16 digs.
Opposite Robert Henderson had five assists in the match.
Tuesday’s first league win for the Balers came on the heels of the team’s first win overall of the season on Monday, when it topped visiting Gunderson in four sets (22-25, 25-15, 25-18, 25-23).

San Benito is back in action on Thursday evening when it will host Gilroy’s Christopher High in a TCAL match. Start time is 6:30 p.m.
