San Benito head coach Erica Richardson said her team’s energy level was a little off on Tuesday night against Palma, but it didn’t prevent the Balers from earning the three-set victory.

“We had a pretty solid match even though the intensity level was so-so,” Richardson said. “But they did well. We played pretty good volleyball. Our energy wasn’t where we preferred, but we played good volleyball.”

Robert Henderson added five blocks and two kills in the win, while Dylan Lomanto had four service aces.

Tuesday’s victory follows last weekend’s Oak Grove Eagle Tournament in San Jose, where the Balers compiled a 3-1 record and finished seventh out of 23 teams.

San Benito won its pool by defeating Dougherty Valley in three sets and Pioneer in two before suffering a two-set loss to Lynbrook (6-25, 24-26). The match against Lynbrook came after a three-hour break in the tournament for the Balers.

Nevertheless, following its loss to Lynbrook, San Benito rebounded and closed out the tournament with a three-set win over Valley Christian 25-6, 23-25, 15-2.

“They came out strong,” Richardson said of the third set against Valley Christian.

Last Thursday, San Benito defeated Christopher in three sets (25-16, 25-11, 25-14).

The Balers will be back on the road Thursday night when it will travel to Salinas to take on Alisal. Match time is 6:30 p.m.
