The Hollister Volleyball Club made an impact at last week’s tournaments held at San Benito High School and North Salinas. The Impact’s 14-3 team took first place in the NCVA Pacific District Silver Division tournament, advancing to the gold division for the last league tournament before regional finals.

HVC’s 14-1 team is ranked in the top 25 in Northern California heading into May’s regional finals. In North Salinas, the 13-1 team went 4-1 in the Pacific District Bronze Division tournament. The third place finish will result in a move to the silver division.

“I am extremely proud of our program,” club president and coach Tom Schatz said. “We have put together a great coaching staff and have a bunch of girls committed to focused hard work. We have been very fortunate to get support for the local community and know that without it we would not be where we are today.”

The club’s talent does not stop at 14. Their 15-1 team has represented the organization in the gold division for an extensive part of the season with several top five finishes. After a minor slip to silver in their last competition two weeks ago, the team looked to improve during the weekend’s tournament at Sunday at San Benito High. All teams competed in regional tournaments over the weekend. With continued success the teams could advance to the 14’s Great America Tournament on June 8th and 9th, and the renowned Far Westerns National Qualifier later this month.

Since its inception in 2010, the Hollister Volleyball Club, (also referred to as team Impact), has grown to six teams consisting of the area’s volleyball athletes. HVC’s mission is to provide a youth sports organization that is committed to offering quality physical and personal development through practice and competition in local and regional events. Their goal is to promote and develop the sport of volleyball and to support parents in guiding each player to become the best person they can be on and off the court. The program focuses on the development of the athlete as a player and as individuals. Players will learn the fundamentals of volleyball as well as the mental and physical commitment required to reach and maintain a high level of success on the volleyball court.
