Volleyball: Anzar looks to rebound from tough 2013 season

Freshman Avry Walker, a Gilroy High product, contributed a match-high 14 kills as the Gavilan College women’s volleyball team began its Coast Conference championship defense with a crisp three-game sweep (25-16, 25-18, 25-19) of Hartnell on Friday night in Gilroy.

Melissa Avila, another GHS alum, put up a team-high 32 assists, posted five aces and had two blocks in the series.

Jaclyn Lantis had 12 kills, while KC Beadle added six kills. Shayna Nakata bagged 16 digs from the back row.

The Rams (8-4, 1-0) continue Coast Conference action with an away date at Monterey Peninsula College on Wednesday. Gavilan returns home Friday night to host Chabot. First serve is 6:30 p.m.
