Hollister shuts down Santa Cruz 3-0 in first game and then edges
Orchard Valley 4-2 on Sunday
The San Benito Youth Soccer League (SBYSL) Hollister Warriors played their first game on Saturday, hosting the Santa Cruz Surf at the Veteran’s Memorial park field, and played a solid game and won 3-0.

Brittany Huth scored the first goal from a free kick from about 25 to 30 yards out, after Rachel Maheu was taken down from behind while running toward what looked like a golden goal scoring opportunity.

In the second half, Rachel Maheu got her goal with a great run down the right side line, and then a sweet cut toward the goal and a shot from about 25 yards out went sailing over the diving goal keeper’s hands for goal number two. With about 20 minutes left in the game Brittany Huth showed of her ball control skills with dribbling in and around several Surf defenders and then putting the ball past their goal-keeper for goal number three and her second one of the game.

Ashley Perreira was in goal for the Warriors and even though she only had to make one great save in the first half, she made four good ones in the second half, helping the Warriors with the win and a nice shut-out.

The Warriors played their second game on Sunday, in Gilroy against the Orchard Valley Fusion. The Fusion scored first in the seventh minute when one of their forwards got behind the Warrior defense and put a shot past rookie keeper Emily Key. The Warriors battled back seven minutes later with a great pass from captain Brittany Huth to speedster Felicia Freitas to tie up the game. A minute later, the Warriors took the lead with a great pass from Verenice Fonseca to forward Caley Faurot-Daniels.

Just before the half ended, Ashlyn Gonzales passed up to a running Rachel Maheu who put in a high flying kick above the Fusion keeper for the Warriors third goal.

But the Fusion battled back and scored another goal in the 70th minute past the Warrior defense and a diving Emily Key. With about 12 minutes left in the game, Ashlyn Gonzales put in a nice goal from a pass from Felicia Freitas making the final score 4-2. The SBYSL Warriors are now tied for first in the division with the San Jose Surge.

The Warrior’s next game is in San Jose versus the South San Jose Surge on Saturday the 17th, and are also hosting the Santa Cruz Blaze next Sunday the 18th at 4:00 PM.
