Our first Red Phone caller of the week, a Hollister man, asked the Crimson Crusader when the city planned to repave Maple Street. This was the first in a series of about a dozen paving questions on the Red Phone this week.

Well, dearest caller, you are in luck. The Crimson Crusader made a call to David Rubcic, associate engineer for the city of Hollister, and found out the city has listed Maple Street on its tentative list of projects for later this summer or fall. Maple Street, from Chappell Road to San Juan Drive in Hollister, is scheduled for repairs. Those looking to find information about streets scheduled to be repaired should call the Hollister Engineering Department at 636-4340. Also, Mr. Rubcic encouraged Red Phone readers and other Hollister residents to e-mail their questions to [email protected].

Downtown Sidewalks are Looking Nice

Our next Red Phone call of the week came from a downtown business owner who reported to the Crimson Crusader that the decorative paving stones on Hollister sidewalks are looking better than ever now that the city has removed weeds clogging them. Thanks for the report, dearest caller; the Crimson Crusader will be sure to pass along your compliments.

Red Phone On Hold: Trash Piles in Yard

Our final Red Phone matter came from a March 31 complaint about a home on Airline Highway in San Benito County that had piles of trash and other junk in its front yard.

The Crimson Crusader called San Benito County Code Enforcement Officer Stacey Watson to see what progress had been made on this case since it was first reported. She told our caped hero that the county has been in contact with the property owner and that the property is owner is making a “good faith effort” to clean up the mess.

So there you have it, dearest callers; work has begun on cleaning up the mess that went on the Crimson Crusader’s “Red Phone on Hold” list 19 days ago. It won’t come off the list, however, until the job is done. Our hero will check up on this issue again in a few weeks.
