Our first Red Phone caller, a Hollister woman, asked the Crimson
Crusader for some clarification on parking downtown during the
rally. The Crimson Crusader has some advice for our caller: Don’t
park downtown during the rally. The Briggs Building will be closed
and most downtown streets will be closed for motorcycle parking and
vendors. Furthermore, parking anywhere downtown during the rally is
a hassle, regardless of what kind of vehicle you drive. If you work
downtown, come early and be prepared to park far away and walk to
your place of business.

The Crimson Crusader called Hollister Police Captain Bob Brooks for some additional advice. He said that during the rally weekend there will be heavy congestion throughout the downtown area. His advice: Be prepared, park outside of the downtown area and be patient.
These Crowded Streets
Our next Red Phone caller asked the Crimson Crusader for some information about city laws regarding parking on the street. Our caller said some people on her block park their vehicles out in the street for months at a time.
The Crimson Crusader called Hollister Code Enforcement Officer Mike Chambless to see what could be done. He said cars parked in the streets must have current registration and be moved every three days. To report street parking violations, call the Hollister Police Department’s non-emergency number: 636-4330.
Crusader Lauded
By Local Reader
Our next Red Phone caller, the self-proclaimed original Kentucky Fried Chicken sign caller, had a brief message for our hero this week: Thank you, thank you, thank you. Our caller was evidently very pleased that the old KFC sign on San Benito Street was taken down last week. The real thanks, dearest caller, goes to property owner Todd Renz.
Is the Crusader
Growing A Beard?
Our next Red Phone caller, a San Juan Bautista woman, asked if the Crusader was competing in the Mission City’s Whiskerino beard-growing contest this weekend. Our hero declined to comment in order to keep his identity a secret.
Unkempt Homes
on Hold for Now
Our final Red Phone caller of the week, a Hollister woman, called the Crimson Crusader to see if something could be done about a home at the corner of El Toro Drive and Hillcrest Road in Hollister. Our caller said the home was “an eyesore” and had piles of junk littering the front yard as well as a number of improperly parked vehicles. Earlier this week, the Crimson Crusader received a separate call about a blighted home on Cienega Road and in the hope of answering two questions with one phone call, our hero made a call over to San Benito County Code Enforcement Officer Stacey Watson to see what could be done. Unfortunately, it was her day off. But, there’s no reason for tears, dearest callers. The Crimson Crusader will check back in on this issue Wednesday.
