Sox looking to make a run at the playoffs after Tuesday’s
win
Hollister – With four games left to play in the San Benito Babe Ruth regular season heading into Tuesday’s action, the White Sox (7-8) face a must-win situation every time they take to the field if they expect to make an appearance this postseason.

One down, three to go.

The White Sox overcame an early 1-0 deficit on Tuesday and picked up a 6-3 victory over the Giants thanks to some solid hitting,

The Giants got on the board in the top of the first after lead-off man Jake Torrise reached first on an infield single. Torrise stole second right away and then moved over to third on an errant pickoff move from the mound by the White Sox.

Trevor Fabing, after going down 0-2 against White Sox starter Brett Pirtle, cracked a shot into left center to score Torrise from third. Nick Acosta was up next for the Giants and he reached safely thanks to a fielding miscue by the Sox.

But, with runners on first and second and nobody out, Pirtle settled down and retired the next three batters he faced to get out of trouble.

Ramiro Chapa led off for the White Sox and he took the 3-0 offering from Giants’ starter Wade Jacobson down the right field line for a single.

Chapa stole second moments later to give teammate Ryan Eaton a shot at an RBI.

But, why settle for one run when you can plate a pair with a single swing?

Eaton worked Jacobson into a full count before crushing one over the fence in left to put the Sox up 2-1.

“That was a big shot, his second of the year,” said White Sox assistant coach Gary Pirtle. “That was a 350-foot shot right there, maybe even more than that.”

Pirtle set the Giants down in order in the top of the second and then the White Sox offense got to work once again on the scoreboard.

Brian Knox got things started with a base knock to right and then teammate Riley Jordan beat out the close throw to first to reach safely with no outs.

Chad Badger was up next and he smacked one over the head of Giants’ left fielder Frank Hernandez, who made a nice backpedaling effort to get to the ball, to score a pair and put himself on third.

Badger didn’t have to wait long to cross the plate himself as Chapa’s double down the third base line allowed him to score easily.

“All we’re doing right now is fighting for a playoff spot,” Pirtle said following Tuesday’s win. “Once the playoffs start we figure that any team who can get hot, because it’s a single-elimination tournament, has a good chance to take it all. And we feel that we have the kids to do it.”
