Editor,

I have been a life long resident of Hollister and an employee of the Greenwoods for eight years.

I would like to vent a little frustration right now with the reaction by certain individuals in the community over the scheduled closing of the Hollister Good Time Bowl.

The closing is for a scheduled remodel to give a face lift to an otherwise aged building and also make it suitable for another business to come in and offset some of the operational overhead.

Many people have taken this as a stabbing in the back from Dave Galtman and partners.

I have spent much time down there in the day-to-day operation and seen the attendance throughout the past months. The line at the movie theater has more people in it on any given day than those that attend the bowling alley on a Friday or Saturday night. And a majority of the bowlers happen to come from out of town.

With this knowledge in hand, I ask Bernie Rivers why he openly attacks the 50 employees at Greenwood Chevrolet, stating in his past letter to the editor “Thanks to the current owners, I will also be traveling to buy my Chevrolets and I encourage everyone else that is a Chevy person to do the same.”

What do the owners and employees of Greenwood Chevrolet have to do with the fact that the bowling alley as a business is a poor investment and cannot make a profit or break even in a good month?

It has been proven that families go elsewhere for family entertainment and do not patronize the bowl. This gives the impression that they could not care less if it closes.

I enjoy bowling myself, but understand that the least business savvy person would not continue to operate at a loss for as long as the Greenwood and Galtman families have.

I encourage everyone to support the local economy, save gas, time and money.

Buy local!
