Hollister City Council members Tuesday approved a contract for the Brigantino/Riverside Park’s final paving at an additional cost of $268,000 and a contract for purchasing radio-read water meters while outsourcing the mailing of utility bills.

“Both are in and finalized,” City Manager Clint Quilter said.

The paving project for Brigantino/Riverside Park was requested by county officials, who deemed it necessary for additional shoulder and turn lane work to be done to ensure safety for motorists coming in and out of the park and turning onto San Juan-Hollister Road.

The cost of the paving is $268,000 and brings the total project tally to more than $2 million. It will be done by Gilroy-based Perma-Green Hydroseeding, which has conducted much of the work at the park for the project.

Council members also approved a a resolution to replace all water meters with radio-read meters and outsource mailing of utility bills. The switch to radio-read meters is being done to help the city transfer to a monthly billing schedule.

“We probably have purchased all the meters and almost all of them are installed,” Quilter said.

Monthly billing is scheduled to begin April 1.

“We probably have purchased all the meters and almost all of them are installed,” Quilter said.
