Steve Wittry has resigned from his position as county public works administrator nearly five years after accepting the post.
Wittry submitted his resignation, while county supervisors accepted it in closed session at a special April meeting.
It is unclear what prompted Wittry’s departure from the county. Before taking the top public works role for the county in July 2009, Wittry served in the Hollister Public Works Department. Wittry was with the city from 1998 to 2009 in various capacities including as civil engineer and deputy director of public works.
In the county’s public works role, Wittry earned $132,772 in total wages in 2012, the latest data available on the state comptroller’s website. The total compensation amount for the position, including benefits, was about $170,000.
