Two men picked up a 13-year-old girl near Gilroy Gardens and brought her to an unknown house, where she was raped after she was possibly drugged, the minor reported to Gilroy police.
Two men driving a grey, four-door sedan picked up the girl – whose name was not released – on Highway 152 near Gilroy Gardens Tuesday afternoon, the girl told police.
The men drove her to a house in the country and the driver took the girl inside where he raped her, police said. Police believe the man gave her a drink that drugged her. She passed out or fell asleep, police said, and woke up while the man was raping her.
The teen was later able to flee when the man was distracted. Police did not say if they knew what distracted the man.
The girl had last been seen running away from Ascencion Solorsano Middle School in west Gilroy about 2:30 p.m. The girl had gotten into trouble at school and fled, Sgt. Jim Gillio said. The school notified police when she took off, he said.
When she didn’t turn up at home by 5 p.m., her parents reported her missing. At that time, officers were in the area of Masten Avenue and Monterey Road investigating the sighting of a juvenile that matched the girl’s description.
“When we got there, there was nobody there,” Gillio said.
At 7 p.m., residents on the 10000 block of Santa Teresa Boulevard called police to report that the girl came to their door, saying she had been raped.
The girl described the driver as a man between 30 and 40 years old, about 5 feet, 11 inches with a chubby build wearing a black T-shirt on top of a white T-shirt. He spoke both Spanish and English.
The passenger was about 35 years old with short black hair and spoke only Spanish in front of the girl. He was wearing a multicolored striped shirt and might have had a moustache.
