Krystal Alnas competes in the discus Friday, winning the event with a throw of 125 feet and three inches. Alnas also took first in the shot put with a throw of 39 feet 4.5 inches.

After taking first place in the Tri-County Athletic League championship last Saturday, the San Benito girls track and field team will be well represented at Saturday’s Central Coast Section prelims at Gilroy High.

The Balers will send nine individual competitors and will compete in 17 events, including the 4×100 relay.

Vanessa Estrada will run in three events for San Benito as they try to follow up their league championship with section championships. Estrada will run the 800 meters, 1,600 meters and the 3,200 meters. Estrada enters the championships among the section leaders in each race, according to Athletic.net.

San Benito thrower Krystal Alnas also enters the prelims among the section leaders. Alnus, who broke the school record in the shot put during the TCAL finals and has been inching closer to the discus record, will compete in the discus and shot put. Teammate Breanna Lowther will compete with her in both events.

Other multiple event participants include LeNae Stevens (100 meters, long jump) Maura Forbush (400 meters, 1600) and Simone Cooper (long jump, triple jump).

Darian Maroney and Amy Quinones will both compete in the high jump during Saturday’s prelims. Savanna Wilson will participate in the high jump event.

The boys team will also send a large group, as they follow their second-place finish at the TCAL finals by sending seven individuals to the prelims.

Lucas Haro (110-meter hurdles, triple jump), RJ Collins (1,600 meters, 3,200), David Kret (200 meters, 400 meters) and Zack Szyndrowski (discus, shot put) will compete in multiple events for San Benito.

The Balers will also compete in both the 4×100 and 4×400 meter relays.

San Benito runners and throwers clinched their berths in the individual competitions after finishing in the top three in each event at the TCAL meet last week.

The prelims start with the girls pole vault at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Gilroy High.
