The San Benito tennis team continued its early season roll Tuesday, staying undefeated in league play with a come-from-behind 4-3 win over Salinas at the Ridgemark Tennis Center.
Despite a loss by No. 1 singles player Audrey Marshall, the Balers won three of the singles competitions. No. 2 singles player Ally Triolo won 6-1, 6-3 for San Benito.
Kelsey Slavich (6-1, 6-3) and Amanda Alvarez (7-5, 6-2) also won for San Benito in the victory. Down 3-2, San Benito’s Alvarez and No. 2 doubles players Berenice Bribiesca and Kathy Frusetta (6-1, 6-1) won the day’s final two matches to propel the Balers to a victory.
“They played great,” head coach Ed Cecena said. “We are excited because it puts us in the driver’s seat.”
It is the Balers seventh-consecutive win, giving them a 7-2 overall record. The Balers ended last week with another close victory, beating Monterey 4-3.
SBHS volleyball
The Balers improved their record in the Monterey Bay League’s Gabilan Division on Tuesday, with a dominant 3-0 victory over Watsonville.
San Benito never trailed in the victory, winning in straight sets (25-12, 25-16, 25-14).
With the win, the Balers’ record improves to 10-9 overall and 2-1 in the MBL.
SBHS boys water polo
The boys water polo team continued its early season struggles Tuesday, falling 13-7 to Salinas.
San Benito owns a 1-5 record inside the MBL Gabilan Division.
AHS volleyball
The Hawks volleyball team defeated Pacific Grove for the second time this year Tuesday, improving their overall record to 11-2.
After falling in the first set Tuesday, the Hawks rolled to three-straight set wins (25-15, 25-19, 25-10) for the 3-1 victory.
Raleigh McKinney led the Hawks with 18 kills and 17 digs. Monica Medina contributed 37 assists as well.
Libero Mali Gonzalez finished the contest with 24 digs.
