Mario Calderon

Police are looking for a man who shot one victim and struck another on the head with a hammer early Thursday morning in Morgan Hill.

The suspect in the attack, Mario Calderon, 33, might be on his way to the country of Mexico, according to Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Sgt. Jose Cardoza. The alleged attacker left the scene of the crime driving a 1994 Acura Integra, license number 6VDL974.

Calderon is likely armed and dangerous, Cardoza said.

Deputies responded to the area of Peebles Avenue and Calle Moniz in unincorporated Morgan Hill about 3:04 a.m. Thursday, in response to a 911 call reporting a shooting incident, Cardoza said.

The caller reported that a 45-year-old man had been shot in the arm with an unknown caliber firearm, and a 25-year-old man had been hit on the head with a hammer, Cardoza said.

Paramedics were summoned to treat the victims’ injuries, which do not appear to be life threatening, Cardoza said.

The suspect was gone from the scene before authorities arrived, police said.

Although a photo of Calderon released by the sheriff’s office depicts the suspect with short black hair, he currently sports a shaved head, Cardoza said.

Calderon is about 5 feet, 6 inches tall, and 180 pounds, authorities said.
