Camille ” Mimi” Mondelli Serafin passed away on Thursday, September 27, 2012, at her home in Gilroy, CA, the place of her birth on April 10, 1918.
Mimi was the second child of Michael and Angelina Filice Mondelli, who haled from Bari and Calabria, Italy, respectively. Her parents, husband, Frank Serafin, and four siblings: Joe Mondelli, Rose Quartiroli, Eva Boyd, and Louise Novak, predeceased her.
She is survived by two daughters, Camille Serafin of Greenfield and Francine Serafin-Dickson (Mark) of San Mateo, and two granddaughters, Rachael and Madeline Dickson, and many nieces and nephews.
Mimi, a first generation Italian, spent her entire life in Gilroy surrounded by many family and friends. She was a graduate of Gilroy High School.
She married Frank Serafin in 1941. Mimi worked along side her husband for many years in the farming business. Her great joy in life was gardening, cooking, and entertaining. She was also a seamstress extordinaire.
Mimi was an active volunteer throughout her life with the Catholic Ladies Aid Society, St. Mary Mother’s Club, St. Louise Hospital Auxillary, Driftwood Convalescent Hospital, and the Italian Catholic Federation. She and her husband were known for starting the infamous spaghetti fundraising dinners in Gilroy. She was a great model to her family for all of her good will given to others and her life-long friendships.
Donations can be made to St. Joseph Center, Second Harvest Food Bank or St. Mary’s School, this will continue her legacy of feeding and caring for others.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 2, 2012, from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. at Habing Family Funeral Home, 129 4th St., Gilroy, CA. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, Octpber 3, 2012, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 11 First Street, Gilroy, CA followed by burial at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
