Lucille Sutti Olave, 80, passed away peacefully at home on November 22, 2012, following a short illness.
At her side at the time of her passing were two of her four children, Karen Griego and Louis E. Olave, Jr., and her dear friends Rose and George UbI.
In addition to Karen and Louis, she is survived by her daughters, Linda Brown and Sandra Olave, four grandsons, James and Michael Brown and Steven and Richard Pennewell. She also leaves behind 14 great-grandchildren, her nephew, Steven Sutti, niece, Dawn Sutti, and son-in-law, Chip Blacker.
Lucille was predeceased by her husband of nearly 60 years, Louis E. Olave, Sr., a proud veteran of World War II, who died in 2008, as well as her beloved brother and sister, Peter Sutti and Barbara Sutti, and her” adopted” son, Dr. Jay L. Chiles.
Lucille was born in Los Banos, CA to Joseph and Virginia Sutti, who also preceded her in death.
Following their wedding in 1949, Louie (as he was universally known) and Lucille lived in several California cities, including San Rafael and Hollister, before settling down in Hayward in 1964, where they raised their family.
For many years, Lucille first worked at and then managed the garden shop at the Sears store in the Southland Shopping Center in Hayward, where she made many good friends and dispensed invaluable advise on how properly to tend and to maintain a healthy garden. She retired as head of personnel at the Hayward Sears store in 1991.
Following her retirement she and Louie toured much of the country in their motor home, making many new friends in the process. In addition to her wonderful gardening skills, Lucille was a marvelous cook, who hosted decades of Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter dinners for family and friends. She generated these feasts – and feasts they were – all without ever consulting a cookbook.
Lucille was a loyal and loving wife, a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother to all who knew her as Mom, Moolie, Grandma and Nana. She was warm-hearted, kind, generous of spirit, and deeply loved by everyone whose life she touched.
She will be missed in ways that are impossible to express in words.
