Local students had a chance to visit with the man from the North Pole Saturday during the Breakfast with Santa event hosted by Hollister Recreation, the San Benito High School Key Club and Kiwanis International.
The first 250 children to arrive under the age of 12 received a free breakfast, with adult guests paying for their meal. Pictures with Santa were also available for $7, with proceeds benefiting the Key Club and Kiwanis Club.
As the holiday season continues, residents have more opportunities to shop, share and celebrate together. The following are some holiday-related events in the county:
12 Days of Giving
The Community Foundation and United Way, partnering with six local nonprofits, will be collecting monetary donations, toy, canned food and clothing donations. The donations will be split between six safety net agencies, including Court Appointed Special Advocates, Community Food Bank for San Benito County, the Salvation Army, Emmaus House, Homeless Coalition for San Benito County and Chamberlain’s Children Home. Monetary donations will be matched up to $20,000. A community celebration will be held Dec. 8, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Tiffany Ford, 300 Gateway Drive. Details: 630-1924 or 12daysofgiving.info.
Emmaus House Coat and toy run
HOLLISTER – The Ride to End Violence Against Women and Children will be Dec. 9, with a check in time between 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., at the Target parking lot, 1790 Airline Hwy. The ride will end at 2020 Santa Ana road, in Hollister. The fee to join the ride is a woman’s or child’s coat or a toy. Lunch is $10 for a single rider or $15 for double riders. The donations will benefit Emmaus House, a domestic violence shelter. Details: Call Mindy Redondo at 524-3652.
Holiday program at the library
HOLLISTER – The Friends of the San Benito County Free Library will host its annual holiday program at the library, 470 Fifth St., Dec. 13, from 5 to 7 p.m. The program features picture-taking with Santa (with your own camera); holiday crafts, storybook reading with Miss Carole, a Friends of the Library book sale and a free book for every child who attends. Holiday bonfire and Hayden Christmas Celebration
SAN JUAN – The Holiday Bonfire and Hayden Christmas Celebration will be Dec. 21 at sunset on First Street near the Mission. Sponsored by the San Juan Service Club, the annual event will feature Santa Claus, games and songs.
Sounds of the Season
HOLLISTER – The Monterey Peninsula Voices, featuring the choir members who performed at the summer Olympics, will perform “Sounds of the Season” at St. Benedict Church Dec. 21, at 8 p.m. Some members of the choir are from Hollister and look forward to performing for local residents.
