It’s getting to be that time of the year. There’s a little chill in the air in the morning, the days are getting shorter and football season is right around the corner. My favorite time of the year is finally here!

For a person who loves her football and takes pride in knowing the game, the teams and the players, I really stink at fantasy football! The all-girls league that I am in held its online draft the other night and I down-right stank. The draft was so fast paced I didn’t even have time to get up and get a drink! And I thought I knew football. The girls I play with are hard core football fans! They took all the players I wanted so fast I had to come up with new ones quicker then I could look them up. I did end up with a few decent players, but I sure hope to do some trading later on. I don’t want to end up dead last like I did last year. Maybe I’m not such a football fan after all.

The Monterey County Cattlemen’s Association held its 35th Annual Ranch Rodeo and Roping last weekend at the Salinas Valley Fairgrounds in King City.

Congratulations to Danielle Porteur Craig on her big win in the 10.5 Roping on Saturday. Hopefully that win propels her to another big win this weekend in Oakdale! Congratulations also go out to Andy Barrington for winning the all-around championship and the Craig Carter Memorial saddle on Sunday during the ranch rodeo. Andy won the Sort and Rope with Bert Ferrasci and the Cattle Sorting. Congratulations also go to Cheyenne Rey and Brody Sans for winning the Junior Calf Branding for the second year in a row.

Birthday wishes go out to Twyster Hurley who celebrated his birthday Aug. 24 and to Val Bassetti who celebrated on Aug. 28. George Rose celebrated his birthday the week before. Happy Birthday all!

The big weekend is finally here for the Hollister PBR. Big names such as Rocky McDonald, Brendon Clark, famed bull fighter Joe Baumgartner and announcer Luke Kaufman will be some of the well known names you will be hearing at this weekend’s event. Event promoters Billy and Dana Aviles and Alex and Laura Naccarato have been working tirelessly to make this a top notch event. Local youth participants will include Cash Robinson, Jordan Parish and Gerardo Ruiz. The weekend kicks off with a golf tournament and pre-party at the Ridgemark Golf and Country Club on Friday, followed by a big day of activities on Saturday at Bolado Park. Tickets are still available but they are going fast. You can check out the line up of events at hollisterpbr.com. This event gets bigger and better every year and you won’t want to miss it.

Speaking of local talent, if you have a Facebook page, check out Brendon Clark’s new show called “Bleeding Cowboys” on his Facebook page. It is a show that shows what the life of a bull rider is like when he is not on the road. It gives the PBR fan a look at what it takes to get to the top, not just what it’s like being on the top. The show features local talents Derek LaCasa, Dylan Hice, Mark Lopes, Caleb Johnson, Brody Sans and of course, Brendon Clark. It is a really cool production, one that Brendon should be very proud of. He is in the process of producing more shows and this is just the first of many more episodes to come. Congratulations, Brendon on a job well done!

Have a great and safe Labor Day weekend everyone, and be sure to give me a call or e-mail me at [email protected] with any news you’d like to share.
