The girls basketball team opened the Del Mar Tournament in San Jose with a 47-37 loss to San Jose’s Leigh.
The Balers started the game strong, taking a 21-19 lead into the second half. But offensive struggles in the third quarter allowed Leigh to take a 35-23 lead.
San Benito pulled closer in the final quarter, but fell by 10 points.
Kelsey Robledo scored a game-high 18 points for the Balers in the loss. Taylor Fabing and Cassandra Barraza added five more points for San Benito.
Seven girls scored for the Balers in the loss. The Balers are now 6-4 on the season, and have lost two games in a row.
San Benito will continue the tournament Thursday against Santa Teresa. The game is expected to begin at 3 p.m.
