Among his list of ideas for the coming year while Victor Gomez is seated as Hollister’s mayor was the suggestion the city should examine hosting some sort of “air show” or fly-in.

Gomez, recently appointed as mayor, noted how he had given Airport Manager Mike Chambless the OK to investigate the possibility of hosting an aviation-related event at the Hollister Municipal Airport.

He acknowledged there may not be the space for a full-blown air show, but he could see a smaller variety such as the fly-in that takes place in Watsonville each year.

One reason Hollister would fit well is because of its location in the region near San Jose and other populated areas, Gomez said.

“I think Hollister’s a good location because of its position compared to other airports,” Gomez said.

The Hollister City Council, meanwhile, will discuss the idea for an aviation event, along with other topics, at a special meeting Jan. 11 at 6 p.m.
