for the office and compete against Undersheriff Patrick Turturici
and Marshal Robert Scattini.
The race for the sheriff’s seat has expanded to three people, with Hollister police Sgt. Ray Wood on Monday pulling papers to run for the office and compete against Undersheriff Patrick Turturici and Marshal Robert Scattini.
Wood, a police department veteran and longtime president of the department’s union, pulled the appropriate papers to submit signatures in lieu of filing fees, according to campaign documents.
He and other residents expecting to run for elected office this year have until Feb. 25 to submit the necessary signatures.
Candidates running for open seats will face off in the June 8 primary. If there are more than two candidates in the primary, the top two vote getters would move on to vie against each other in the November general election.
If one candidate among the three obtains more than 50 percent of the vote, however, he or she would gain the seat without the need for a race in the general election.
Turturici was promoted to the office’s No. 2 role in 2005, and Scattini served a term as sheriff starting in 1983. The three candidates are pursuing the position held by Sheriff Curtis Hill for the past 11 years.
