Arlington National Cemetery in the nation’s capital will honor former Hollister resident Joseph P. Gulli, who was listed as missing in action after his crew’s aircraft was downed by in September 1943.

There will be a full burial ceremony for Gulli, a private whose B-25 and crew of five were downed by Japanese anti-aircraft near New Guinea in the Pacific, according to the family.

He was one of four Gulli boys who served in World War II and all of them attended Hollister High School.

It came up when two family members had been visiting Arlington and realized there was a special site for soldiers who went missing in action. They made arrangements with Arlington for a head stone, service and color guard.

That ceremony, on May 13, will be attended by several family members.

Gull has two siblings still living in Hollister – Angie Gulli Filice (Julio) and Eugene Gulli (Katie).
