San Benito High pitcher Darin Gillies made a verbal commitment to Arizona State University last Monday, according to San Benito manager Michael Luna.

The junior hurler, who tossed a complete game three-hitter against Salinas last Friday, is currently 4-0 in the Tri-County Athletic League with a 0.61 earned run average.

He is 5-1 overall.

Gillies has thrown 41 innings this season, but has struck out 64 batters. He struck out eight Cowboys in Friday’s win.

In the latest rankings, meanwhile, Arizona State is ranked No. 2 in the nation by USA Today/ESPN, and No. 3 by Baseball America.

The Sun Devils are currently 14-4 in the Pac-10, 38-5 overall.
