The Gavilan College Rams went 3-1 at the 2010 Delta Classic Tournament last weekend in Stockton and finished in fourth place overall.
The Rams are now 3-3 overall on the season.
Gavilan fell in the tournament opener last Friday to Feather River College by a 3-0 (25-16, 27-25, 25-19) margin. It was Gavilan’s third straight loss to open the 2010 season, with two of those three losses coming against Feather River.
But the Rams followed the loss with three straight victories to close out the tournament, which was held at San Joaquin Delta College.
Gavilan edged Chabot 3-2 (25-18, 21-25, 25-15, 23-25, 15-13) in its second match, then did the same to College of the Siskiyous with another five-set win (25-20, 25-22, 20-25, 20-25, 15-12).
The Rams then advanced to the fourth- and fifth-place consolation match, where it defeated Solano 3-1 (25-14, 19-25, 25-16, 25-15).
Cabrillo College defeated Sacramento 3-0 in the championship, while Fresno topped Sierra 3-0 in the third-place match.
The Rams will return to non-tournament action this Friday when it travels north to San Jose City College. Match time is 6:30 p.m.
Gavilan College Men’s Soccer
The Gavilan College men’s soccer team improved to 2-1-1 on the early season last Friday when it defeated host Mission College by a 5-1 score in Santa Clara.
The comfortable victory was the Rams’ first road match this season. The team was coming off three straight contests at home against San Joaquin Delta (2-2 T), Shasta (3-1 W) and West Hills (3-1 L).
Gavilan will return home to Gilroy on Friday when it will host Ohlone College at 4 p.m.
