by a large group of people who identified themselves as members of
a gang.
A 21-year-old man was found suffering from stab wounds near the intersection of Pine and South streets Friday, after he was jumped by a large group of people who identified themselves as members of a gang.
The man was flown to a Bay Area hospital where he is listed in serious but stable condition.
Officers are investigating the crime as an attempted murder, according to the press release from the police department.
Officers discovered the severely beaten man on the ground with serious stab wounds and lacerations to his upper torso, neck and back, said Sgt. David Westrick, spokesman for the Hollister Police Department.
The man was beaten by a large group of men, who chased away the victim’s two friends, around 11:30 p.m. Friday, according to the press release.
Witnesses reported that a large group of men in their 20s asked three men if they were members of a gang, according to the report. When the smaller group answered no, the larger group attacked them. Two of the men were able to escape the attack but the third was stabbed multiple times.
When the larger group, which was wearing predominantly red clothing, fled the area they chanted “Norte,” according to the release.
