Although it’s coming to the end of just its second year of play, the Hollister Tremors 10U Aftershocks are certainly making a name for themselves, collecting hardware from the District II Cup to the President’s Cup this past fall season.

The Aftershocks earned first place in their division, third place in the District II Cup, and second place in the President’s Cup in Ripon just recently.

“They’re doing really good,” said Hollister coach David Lowi, who manages the youth girls soccer team alongside Adolfo Laguna. “For us and for our area, we have a limited supply of girls we can really pool from. But we were fortunate to get a good group of quality girls to start out with.

“We’ve been able to play at the higher levels.”

After it finished runner-up at the CASA Adidas Championship in Rancho Cordova in August, the Aftershocks kicked off their fall campaign this year playing within the District II Silver ‘B’ division, where they not only compiled an 8-0-2 record to take first place, but also advanced to the District II Cup tournament as a result.

Part of the San Benito Youth Soccer League, the 10U girls soccer team then went 1-1-1 in preliminaries at the District II Cup, defeating Orchard Valley 2-1, tying the Sunnyvale Athena 0-0, and falling to the Palo Alto Lightning by a 2-1 margin.

The record placed Hollister second in the group and advanced the team to the third-place consolation game against Woodside, where they comfortably defeated Woodside by a 3-1 edge en route to the third-place finish.

Just recently, while competing in the CYSA Northern California President’s Cup in Ripon, the Aftershocks compiled a 3-1-1 record to take second place, narrowly falling by a 1-0 margin to the Palo Alto Lightning in the tournament championship.

“Those two games we lost were to the same team,” said Lowi, whose team previously fell to Palo Alto 2-1 during the District II Cup.

The 10U team still put together a strong run to reach the title game, though.

In group play, the Aftershocks went 2-0-1, defeating Bullard SC of Fresno 4-0 and the San Francisco Vikings by a 2-0 score. Hollister also tied the Mount Hamilton Dragons 1-1 in group play, but still managed to take first place in the group, nonetheless.

In bracketed play, the Aftershocks advanced to the semifinal round and defeated the Mission Valley United by a 3-0 score to advance to the title match against Palo Alto.

“We have a good group,” Lowi said. “If we keep working hard, we’ll be able to maintain our level of play with some of the clubs in the Bay Area. They’re on a good track to continue playing at the higher levels.”

The Aftershocks are off until the spring season in March, although Lowi anticipates Hollister will be playing in the top division.
