Playing a bunker shot can be scary, period. Playing from a buried lie (pictured) can make it even more intimidating. But don’t panic. This shot is not as difficult as it seems.
When addressing a normal bunker shot, you would play the ball forward with a slightly open stance. The club face will be open slightly to allow the bounce of the club to skip through the sand, not dig.
With a buried lie, you need to square, or close the face at address. Square your stance with a little more grip pressure with the last three fingers of your left hand for the right-handed golfer. When the club enters the sand, the toe and leading edge will dig and slide under the ball.
The key is to accelerate through the sand with enough momentum to hit the sand and ball out.
