The Community Foundation of San Benito County, while expanding after getting a grant agreement from the Packard Foundation, is moving into a new space this week, possibly by today.
Directory of Development Paul Levy said the move is needed because of Comunity Foundation’s staff increase.
“This reflects the growth of the Community Foundation – it’s why we needed to expand,” Levy said.
The foundation will move from its 500-square-foot space at 719 San Benito St. down the road to the old Fortino’s building at 829 San Benito St. The building also houses Nino Real Estate.
All of the contact information for the foundation will remain the same, except for its new address.
The move reflects not only an increase in staff, but also the larger scope of the foundation’s operations.
“We’re going from a 1.5 man staff to five people,” Levy said. “The scope of our operations is also growing. We started off with nothing and we are now growing. We are now more than a one-man operation.”
Levy added that the group is looking to work with nonprofits in the county more closely.
The foundation will need to do some housekeeping such as getting new furniture, but once that is all taken care of, there will be an open house, Levy said.
The nonprofit in December received word that the David and Lucille Packard Foundation agreed to give a $600,000 grant to the group with three purposes: to give $250,000 toward re-granting to other San Benito County nonprofit groups, help Community Foundation build its capacity and educate other local organizations on methods to build theirs as well.
