– Gilroy Dispatch

A blaze has grown to between 75 and 100 acres in the Rooster Comb Ranch area of Henry W. Coe State Park, and has the potential to grow to about 500 acres, firefighters said.

About 1 p.m., firefighters received a report of a fire in a remote area of the park. Within 30 minutes, firefighters had located the blaze – which they estimated at 25 acres – and were approaching it by road and with helicopters.

About 1:40 p.m., firefighters said the blaze could be located on a privately owned area near the park.

About 2:30 p.m., firefighters still had not reached the flames by ground, but had gotten to a position where they could better view the blaze. At that time, they estimated the fire to be between 75 and 100 acres. Firefighters also called in two additional air units at this time.

As of 2:45 p.m., firefighters on the ground were holding a ridge line while other firefighters attacked the blaze from the air. The estimated acreage of the fire remained the same.

The fire is being referred to as the Mustang Incident due to its proximity to an area of the park with the same name.
