A storm front is expected to roll into the Hollister area beginning this evening and bring with it strong winds and rain, according to an area National Weather Service meteorologist.

“This was a mild-mannered cold front coming through the area combined with the remnants of a typhoon,” said Diana Henderson, a forecaster with the National Weather Service in Monterey. “It increases winds and makes a bad situation somewhat worse.”

Starting around midnight Monday, winds are expected to increase and rain is expected to fall. Henderson said the winds should pick up to 20 to 30 mph later in the evening with gusts up to 50 mph.

The National Weather Service has issued a high-wind warning from 2 a.m. to 11 p.m. Tuesday. Winds are expected to be blowing south to southeast at 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 55 mph, coupled with rain.

By Tuesday evening, winds are expected to die down and the rain is expected to reduce to showers. The storm is expected to clear up by Thursday, which is forecasted as partly cloudy.

There is also a flash flood watch in effect for burn areas Tuesday morning through the evening.

The last time a storm like this rolled through the area was in October 1962, according to Henderson, and it was under “similar circumstances.”
