The Gavilan College men’s soccer team will wrap up its regular season Friday in Aptos at Cabrillo College, where the Rams will seek one last victory to cap their 2009 campaign.

At 4-7-2 in the Coast Conference, 5-11-3 overall, the Rams have been eliminated from playoff contention. Although, considering they compiled an 0-12-2 record in the conference last season, the Rams are enjoying their best season since the sport’s reinstatement in 2007, and still have one game remaining.

“The positive thing is that we definitely improved,” Gavilan head coach Albert Marques said. “Every year we’ve gotten better. Hopefully, this is another stepping stone for us.”

The Rams battled West Valley and Foothill recently, but were unable to upset the conference powerhouse schools, falling 5-0 and 5-1, respectively. Gavilan did score a 4-0 victory over City College of San Francisco on Nov. 6, however.

“We’ve been hit or miss, but we’ve had some good games,” Marques said. “The last couple of games, we’ve played some of the top teams and we got beat.”

The Rams will finish the regular season at Cabrillo on Friday. Match time is 2 p.m.
