Visiting our post office frequently in the early evening, I have
noted that seven of the lights at the front door, and in the
parking lot, have been burned out for some months now. Only one of
the four lights at the front of the building is working; the stairs
and front porch are in total darkness, an invitation to a bad fall,
or, worse, an assault on a woman in the dark.
The light that failed at the P.O.
Dear Editor,
Visiting our post office frequently in the early evening, I have noted that seven of the lights at the front door, and in the parking lot, have been burned out for some months now. Only one of the four lights at the front of the building is working; the stairs and front porch are in total darkness, an invitation to a bad fall, or, worse, an assault on a woman in the dark.
The post office employees, with whom I have discussed the defective lighting, tell me that it is a matter for the OIC, the officer in charge. It seems that Hollister is sort of a satellite office, supervised by a postmaster in some distant city. Presumably our OIC’s office hours are in broad daylight, and, as she has her reserved parking place at the back door of the building, she is neither aware of, nor interested in, the burned out lights that hazard the main entrance and parking lot. It would be nice if a government agency exhibited a tad of concern for the public it supposedly serves.

Congrats to local essay winner
Dear Editor,
The Hollister VFW Post 9242 is pleased to announce that our Patriot Pen Essay winner Connor Parker was selected for third place in the 12th District competition. Connor received a check for $200, a certificate of merit and a beautiful wooden plaque. These items were presented to Connor at this month meeting of the VFW Post 9242. The competition was very tight with over 70 entries turned in. A young lady from Monterey won the state competition. Her essay will now go against all the other state winners to determine who get the trip to Washington D.C. with their family and a $10,000 saving bond.
