‘Baler Zach Davis medaled and the San Benito boys golf team easily defeated King City 218-273 Tuesday at the Ridgemark Golf and Country Club in Hollister.

Competing on the par-36 front nine of the Gabilan Course, David led all scorers with a 5-over 41.

With the junior varsity team not scheduled for as many events as their varsity counterparts, coaches Brian Silva and Sal Felice decided to play five JV members Tuesday against visiting King City.

“Zach is gonna come up to play some varsity matches because he’s been playing well and he medaled,” Felice said. “Brian and I were both fairly happy with the scores the JV’s put up.”

Felice added that the other JV golfers will have their chance to compete for a varsity spot on Friday. Felice said there are currently two openings, possibly three, for next Monday’s Los Altos Invitational at the San Juan Oaks Golf Club in Hollister.

San Benito’s Matt Sanchez finished the front nine one stroke behind Davis, shooting a 42 Tuesday, while Daniel Tepples and Marcus Synegal each carded a 43. Josh Greenwood rounded out the ‘Balers with a 49, while Taylor Weatherly shot a 53 against King City.

San Benito will play Carmel at The Links at Spanish Bay on Thursday in Pebble Beach. Tee time is 3:30 p.m.
