Resident appreciates all the work put in for London band’s visit to San Benito County

Dear Editor,

I would like to express my deep appreciation to the students and staff at San Benito High School for hosting the Sedgehill School Band from London during their recent visit to Hollister. Special thanks to Principal Krystal Lomanto for her enthusiastic support and to Juan Robledo and Becky Doty for their tireless efforts to coordinate the welcome reception and hosting arrangements.

Thanks also to Mr. Zuniga for his time and use of the Band Room and equipment. I would like especially to commend ASB officers Brooke Bainter and Jordan Archer for taking on this opportunity with a positive attitude, and for the countless hours they spent making this visit a huge success.

I would also like to thank the Hollister families who opened their homes and hearts to the Sedgehill students and chaperones. I know their guests took many wonderful memories back to London. I am hopeful that some of the new friendships forged during five short days may lead to lifetime connections, such as the one I am fortunate to share with the band’s director, Tony Masters.

Thank you also to Mayor Doug Emerson and the Hollister City Council for the Certificate of Welcome they presented to Tony and the Sedgehill School Band at the Council meeting of April 7.

A final thanks to Nick Lovejoy, Kristen Tolleson and Kollin Kosmicki of the Free Lance for their fine coverage of this noteworthy event.

The generosity of spirit shown by everyone in our community involved in the Sedgehill Band’s visit truly made me feel proud to be a resident of Hollister.

We need to protect land

Dear Editor,

Seems Congress is still diverting funds of about $100 million over the past 40 years from the national parks. In some cases private citizens have bought some of this land, kept it and are sold it back to the park system at a profit. The least we can do is protect it.
