Stephen Anthony Weber of Hollister recently earned the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest honor presented by the Boy Scouts of America. To reach the rank of Eagle, scouts must earn 21 required merit badges and complete a community service project.
For Stephen’s Eagle project he planned and led a large group of scouts in restoring many of the dangerous portions of the trails at St. Francis Retreat in San Juan Bautista to make it safe for hikers.
Stephen assisted other Scouts in working on their Eagle projects. He has participated in the riverbed cleanup, Christmas tree pickups, Hollister Exchange Club crab cracks, the local Boy Scout day camp and the Boy Scout turkey shoot. Stephen was nominated for the Order of the Arrow. He also held the positions of assistant patrol leader, patrol leader and senior patrol leader. During his scouting time he earned 27 merit badges.
Stephen will be attending the University of California, Santa Cruz in the fall. He graduated from San Benito High School with honors, and attended Rancho San Justo Middle and Southside schools.
He said he is especially grateful to Ken Fuller and Doug Herring, his scoutmasters, who assisted him in many ways. He also thanked Kevin Carter and Mary Damm who were instrumental in helping him achieve the rank of Eagle Scout, and his father, Richard Weber, who was an assistant scoutmaster in the troop.
His Eagle Scout Honor Court will be June 8, 2008, at First Presbyterian Church in Hollister at 1 p.m.
