Garden project at Chamberlains
The Cienega 4-H group of Hollister was joined Saturday, May 31
by members of Leadership San Benito County and friends and family
of Jan Jones for a community service workday at Chamberlains
Children’s Center. Funds used were raised in memory of Jan Jones,
who died of brain cancer in April 2007. The workday project
included replacing and adding new plants and trees, restaking
exisiting trees and vines, fertilizing the lawn and refreshing wood
chips around the entire park. A rose garden was planted, and garden
boxes were completed and planted with vegetables, herbs and
flowers. A shade garden was also finished. Many of the kids living
at Chamberlains came out to help with the planting, and enjoyed
mingling with the 4-H kids and eating the barbecue lunch
provided.
