SAN JUAN BAUTISTA

Five seniors on the Anzar girls volleyball team celebrated their final home game of the season on Tuesday in San Juan Bautista by accomplishing something no other Hawks team has done in six years.

Anzar swept a visiting Pacific Grove team for the second time this year, beating the Breakers 28-26, 25-19 and 25-22. It’s the first time since the 2002-03 season the Hawks have defeated Pacific Grove twice in the same season.

Senior Erin Deleissegues delivered 15 kills, 22 digs, one block and five service aces in the three-game sweep for Anzar, which improves to 7-6 in the Mission Trail Athletic League, 14-12 overall.

Fellow senior Kerstin Tuning had a strong game as well at the setter position, contributing 29 assists, two kills and one service ace.

Anzar’s other three seniors – Cristina Medina, Ashley Homan and Olivia Fiori – played the role of defensive specialists Tuesday and had a combined 20 digs total.

Anzar will play their final regular season match on Thursday when they visit Stevenson in Pebble Beach. Match time is 6 p.m.
