Hollister – The Hollister Redevelopment Agency will consider a $1.5 million grant to the City of Hollister to pay for the construction of a new animal shelter.
Animal Control Director Julie Carreiro has said the current 1,400-square-foot shelter, located near the end of South Street, is too small for the animals and staff members. The new shelter will be a 7,611-square-foot building adjacent to Hollister’s public works yard on South Street.
The City Council directs the redevelopment agency, but RDA money cannot be used for most general fund expenses.
At Monday’s meeting, the City Council may also award the contract for construction of the wastewater treatment plant’s seasonal storage ponds to C. Overaa & Company. According to C. Overaa’s bid, construction will cost $8.69 million. The city’s estimated project cost was $20 million.
C. Overaa is already building the city’s new wastewater treatment plant.
The City Council meeting will begin at 6:30pm Monday in City Hall at 375 Fifth St.
