Kathy of Kilauea, Hawaii, formerly of Morgan Hill, peacefully entered into rest on Sunday, July 1, 2007 at Good Samaritan Hospital with her family by her side. She lost her two month battle with breast cancer that had metastasized to her liver.
Kathy was born on January 23, 1942 in Cherokee, IA. She was a graduate of the University of South Dakota at Vermillion with a BS Degree in microbiology. She moved to California shortly after graduation and worked at San Jose Medical Clinic, Alexian Brothers, Good Samaritan and St. Louise hospitals until her retirement in 2006. She and her husband Lee have lived in Morgan Hill since 1977. While there, she was active in the Morgan Hill branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW), where she served two terms as President, as well as, numerous terms on their board of directors. She and her husband moved from Morgan Hill to her dream in Kilauea, HI on the Island of Kauai in April 2006. While there, she volunteered at the Kilauea Point Lighthouse/National Wildlife Refuge and the Hawaiian Monk Seal Conservation Hui. She was also active in local bridge groups, photography and craft fairs.
She is survived by her husband Lee of Kilauea, HI, her son Jeffrey of Sheboygan, WI, her mother Adeline Wright of Mankato, MN and her brother Charles Wright of Madison Lake, MN. She will be dearly missed by her daughter-in-law Tamara and her two grandchildren, Emily and Lucas Sass.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, July 7, 2007 at Johnson Funeral Home in Morgan Hill. Another memorial service will be held at a later date on the Island of Kauai, where her ashes will be distributed off the coast of the Kilauea Point Lighthouse.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Kathleen’s honor to the American Cancer Society.
