It was the first loss of the season in the Tri-County Athletic League for San Benito, who now stand at 10-1.

The Lady ‘Balers will likely be playing for the TCAL title on Tuesday when they return to Salinas to battle Notre Dame.

Notre Dame has two games remaining with a 9-1 league record. They’ll host San Benito at 6:30 p.m.

Anzar Girls Volleyball

Santa Catalina broke Anzar’s three-game winning streak Thursday, dropping the host Hawks in three games 25-20, 25-20, 25-17.

Erin Deleissegues provided 25 digs and Christina Flores had eight kills and four blocks. Kerstin Tuning supplied 10 assists and a pair of aces.

Coach Chris Wardlaw was unavailable for comment by press time.

The Hawks had won their last three contests against Carmel, Gonzales and Soledad. Thursday’s 3-0 loss puts the Hawks at 7-4 in the Mission Trails Athletic League, 10-11 overall.

Anzar Cross Country

Aron Hsia-Coron was the first to cross the finish line and the Anzar cross country team took first place at a dual meet on Thursday.

Hsia-Coron clocked a 16:30, while teammate Miles MacKinnon finished second in 16:31.

Kevin Bowers was third (16:38), Colin Parsons finished fourth (16:43), Israel Parra was fifth (17:15) and Christian Heath crossed in seventh place (17:19).

Anzar compiled 19 points at the meet, with Pacific Collegiate totaling 36 and Downtown College Prep with 110. Latino College Prep was present but did not have enough participants.

Anzar will compete at the MTAL/CAL Championships at Toro Park in Salinas on Thursday at 2:30 p.m.
