The Hollister National 8-9-year-old All-Star team eliminated the Hollister American team with a 10-9 win Tuesday night in the District 39 tournament in Santa Cruz.

The Americans were down two runs going into the sixth but scored five runs to go ahead. But the Nationals, who have one loss, answered right back with three runs in the bottom of the inning to win and advance to play on Friday. Jessie Vallejo knocked in the winning run.

For the Americans, Josh Tonascia had double and triple, Marcus Rueda had a double and single. He was 3-for-4 and his only out was a hard shot to the pitcher. Junior Rodriguez went 2-for-4. Alex Garcia had a single and double.

Hollister National 11s Eliminated

The Hollister National 11-year-old All-Star team was eliminated in the District tournament in Salinas after a 6-0 loss to the North County Tuesday.

David Achen had a double – the only extra-base hit for Hollister. The only other hits were by Patrick Killeen and Michael Bocksnick.

Trevor Buller pitched the first three innings, Justin Patterson pitched the middle innings and Danny Buzzetta came for the final inning and didn’t allow a run.
