Editor,

There have been so many laudatory letters about Dorothy McNett that I hesitated writing this one. I visited her only a couple of times, but my wife, a dedicated cookbook adherent, often found that Dorothy was the only one in Hollister to sell her a prized ingredient. She also accompanied Dorothy to southern France in the mid 90’s to learn their cooking skills.

Dorothy exposed Hollister to a new culture beyond motorcycles and earthquakes. She publicized good cooking and wines. She put us on the map for these attributes.

I would like to propose that the burgeoning local wineries chip in and sponsor a tasting room in her former establishment and give her a place in it. They could also put us on the map with this. We need more Dorothy McNetts!

John B. Fitch, Hollister
