Hollister – Lunch at local taco stand was interrupted Friday when a man tried to shoot another man during a fight that suddenly broke out in the parking lot, according to George Ramirez of the Hollister Police Department

A conversation between the two quickly escalated to a violent struggle in the parking lot of El Grullense Taqueria on the 900 block of San Juan Road in Hollister, Ramirez said. Both men fled the scene before police officers arrived approximately two minutes after the fight began, leaving behind the loaded magazine from a 9mm handgun and approximately four grams of methamphetamine, Ramirez said.

One man fled on foot down Line Street and the other sped away in a tan, late-80s model Ford truck with the word “FORD” written in white letters on the tailgate, according to a release by the Hollister Police Department

Witnesses described the suspects to police officers as Hispanic males between 25 and 30 years old. One of the suspects was wearing a blue shirt and the other a white shirt. Both men were wearing jeans. The suspect who fled on foot was bald, witnesses told police.

Ramirez said police have no other leads in the case.

“Someone may have some small piece of information,” Ramirez said. “No matter how small it is, it could help us to develop new leads.”

Ramirez said that although no shots were fired, witnesses claimed the gun-wielding suspect was trying to shoot the other suspect.

Ramirez said that this type of crime is extremely rare in Hollister, especially in a public place at that time of day, and police do not believe the incident is gang related.

“We don’t see too many people struggling for guns at that time of day,” Ramirez said.

Anyone with information on the incident are encouraged to call the Hollister Police Department at 636-4330.
