Hollister Man Charged with Sexually Abusing Young Girl
Hollister – San Benito County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Hollister man for allegedly sexually abusing a 12-year-old girl Friday, according to police.
Idelfonso Gomez Dias, 22, of 1071 Powell St. in Hollister, was arrested and booked for committing a lewd act with a minor and continuous sexual abuse of a 12-year-old Hollister girl after he allegedly touched her inappropriately several years ago, according to police. The incident was reported by the victim’s mother, Undersheriff Patrick Turturici said Monday. Dias, who was a friend of the victim’s family, was arrested at his home and taken into custody, Turturici said.
Investigators have evidence that the lewd acts occurred four or five years ago when the victim was 7 or 8-years-old, Detective Sgt. Chris Greene said. The crime was initially reported two years ago, but information that the suspect was back in San Benito County prompted the arrest, Greene said. Greene said the suspect cooperated with investigators.
Dias posted bail and was released from the San Benito County Jail on Saturday, said Sgt. Beth Dudzik. He is scheduled to appear in court on the two felony charges Dec. 6, she said.
Dias could face up to eight years in the state prison if charged and convicted of the felony crimes, according to the state penal code.
Six-car Accident at Pacheco Y Monday Results in One Minor Injury
Hollister – A six-car collision at the Don Pacheco Y intersection of highways 152 and 156 Monday afternoon sent a sole motorist to the hospital with minor injuries and police were able to reopen the road to traffic within 45 minutes of the accident, according to the California Highway Patrol.
San Jose woman Marjeet Klair, 60, was transported by ambulance to Saint Louise Regional Medical Center in Gilroy complaining of minor pain to her left shoulder after 35-year-old San Jose resident Manuel Brasil crossed over the double yellow lines on Highway 152 and collided with her Honda Accord, according to the CHP.
After the initial collision just west of Highway 156 around 2:45pm, Brasil continued driving in the opposite lane and subsequently hit four more cars, however no one else was injured, according to police.
Brasil was traveling at an unknown speed in his Ford pick-up truck, and for some reason lost control of his car and crossed into oncoming traffic, according to the CHP.
After Brasil collided with the left side of Klair’s car, he continued in the opposite lane and hit the left rear side of 60-year-old Hollister resident David Coffey’s Ford pick-up truck. Brasil then hit 45-year-old Fresno resident James Weins’ Toyota pick-up truck and 78-year-old Sunnyvale resident Norman Meyers’ Honda mini-van. Finally he collided with 38-year-old Los Banos resident Rodney Nasaire’s Honda Civic, according to the CHP.
Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the accident, which is pending investigation.
Gavilan College Hosting Art Exhibition
Hollister – Artists, amateurs and professionals, are participating in Gavilan College’s Hollister show “What is Your Vision of the Iraq War?”
Mark Fisher, a sculptor and painter, will serve as curator. The Hollister resident has taught art at San Benito High School and drawn editorial cartoons for the Pinnacle.
Fisher is hosting the Iraq art exhibit because “artists have the ability to create a unique forum to discuss the political views of our time. Here is a chance to express your vision of war and the political conflict raging in the Middle East.”
The exhibit at the Briggs Building at Gavilan College, 365 Fourth St. in Hollister, will run from Nov. 7 to Jan. 8.
