Hollister – Police have nailed down a motive and are investigating two suspects in conjunction with a shooting on Highway 156 about two weeks ago that sent a San Jose man to the hospital with between seven to nine gunshot wounds.

San Benito County Sheriff’s detectives declined to release specifics on the possible motive or who the suspects are due to the pending investigation, but are hoping the 31-year-old victim – who remains in critical condition – will be able to identify the shooter, according to Undersheriff Pat Turturici.

Turturici said police are close to making an arrest in the case, but would not say when that might happen.

Deputies found the victim lying in the middle of Highway 156 near Fairview Road. A passing motorist had stopped to help the man, Turturici said.

The victim had been shot with a small to medium caliber semi-automatic handgun – possibly at point-blank range – while sitting in the back of a pick-up truck, Turturici said. He was shot near the upper left shoulder, in the torso and once in the face near his mouth, he said.
