Let me start by saying thank you to all the sponsors that helped
get Jorge Hernandez past the Central California Silver Gloves,
California State Silver Gloves and the Regional Silver Gloves
championships. Without all of you, he would not have made it this
far. But we have one more mountain to climb and thus far it looks
like it may be the end of the road for this young man to make the
National Silver Gloves Championship.

We have fallen short of our goal and with the deadline being this week, it will be hard for me to tell this young boxer, maybe next year. How do you explain to a 10-year-old that the economy is not that good or there just is not enough money or explain to him that maybe it was not meant to be this year or give him false thoughts about his religion and tell him that maybe the good lord will bless us next year.
Whatever it may be, it will be hard to explain. But what is harder for me to understand is how we have so many groups in this county that speak about helping the Latino community and how bad they say we must help each other, but as of yet I have not heard from any group pushing for Latinos, calling or coming by our gym to offer their help. I did, however, have help from the little businesses from the community from various races.
I am sorry to sound racist, but why cry out for one particular race when we should be there for everyone, regardless of race.
In closing, I would like to give a special thanks to the Rotary Club for helping us every year without discrimination. This is not a letter to start a war with anyone. It is simply to vent my frustration.
