Dear Editor:

Re: Good and Bad Transport Policy Decisions.

Jeers to Association of South California Governments for their decision to build “truck-only” toll roads in California.

Cheers to Intermodal freight which will depose King Coal this year as the No.1 revenue source for the American Class I railroads.

Cheers to Caltrans Chief of Highway Programs, Mr. Jim Nicholas, who told CTC that California needs more intermodal transportation facilities.

Jeers to those government planners who ignore the 75-percent fuel savings available due to the coefficient of friction of steel wheels rolling on steel rails, compared with that of rubber tires on cement or asphalt.

Jeers to the HSRA’s Bullet Train, targeting downtown Gilroy, which, for every tourist dollar it might bring in, will cost local small business owners $500 in higher taxes and fees.

As I said to the High Speed Rail Commission, if you put enough freight tonnage on their railroad, then you would not need to be raising taxes and fees.

Caveat viator.
